Key facts
Each year, the Central Compensation Office (CCO) pays out more than CHF 7.9 billion in AHV/IV pensions to nearly a million beneficiaries abroad, representing 14% of all pensions. In 2021, the Swiss Federal Audit Office (SFAO) made nine recommendations aimed at modernising and digitalising the CCO’s tools, strengthening data analysis and clarifying the processes for recovering undue payments. It also recommended reviewing the terms of collaboration with partner banks. The follow-up audit found that the CCO had implemented five recommendations and that four still required concrete action.
The audit found tangible progress in financial governance, transparency and internal cooperation. However, some challenges remain: the CCO still needs to strengthen coordination with its institutional partners, make more systematic use of its data and speed up its digital transformation. The continuation of this modernisation will be a key factor in ensuring secure, efficient and modern management of pension payments abroad.
