Key facts
This report presents the results of preparations for an evaluation of the pharmacy tariff which is used to remunerate the dispensing of prescription medicines. The evaluation had been intended to show whether the pharmacy tariff applied to compulsory health insurance benefits is appropriate and has the desired effects. At the time of the audit, the updated tariff agreement for the performance-related remuneration to pharmacies was with the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) for approval.
The preparations for the evaluation did not identify any major risks for the Confederation as regards remuneration for pharmacies. The SFAO therefore decided not to proceed with the planned evaluation. Nonetheless, the SFAO has drawn some lessons on the supervision of pharmacies in relation to tariff-setting and the safe dispensing of medicines.
