Key facts
The public foundation Pro Helvetia promotes diversity in Swiss artistic and cultural creation, and supports cultural exchange. Its support is subsidiary to that provided by the cantons and the municipalities. Pro Helvetia covers all artistic disciplines except cinema, which is the responsibility of the Federal Office of Culture (FOC). Its global network comprises five liaison offices (Cairo, Johannesburg, New Delhi, Shanghai, South America) and the Swiss Cultural Centre (CCS) in Paris. Together with two partner institutions subsidised by Pro Helvetia – the Swiss Institutes in Rome and New York – they make up the Foundation’s external network. From its head office in Zurich, Pro Helvetia provides direct support for projects abroad in various artistic domains. The global network employs one third of Pro Helvetia’s staff members (32 full-time equivalents out of 91).
In 2024, Pro Helvetia contributed to the realisation of 4,474 Swiss artistic and cultural projects abroad. CHF 8.9 million were spent on the external network. CHF 11.5 million went to finance artistic and cultural activities for international projects by artistic disciplines at the Zurich head office.
