Key facts
The CO2 tax has been levied as an incentive fee on fuel since 2008. Its objective is to promote the economical use of fossil fuels. Two thirds of the annual tax revenue of approximately CHF 1 billion is redistributed to households and companies. Around one third goes to the building programme and the technology fund.
