Political parties represented in the Federal Assembly disclose their funding as of 30 June of the following year. The Swiss Federal Audit Office (SFAO) has today published the figures on party funding for 2025 in<\/em> the<\/em> electronic register<\/u><\/em><\/a>, together with a list of the political actors audited. The total reported income of 9 parties amounted to CHF\u00a024.6\u00a0million.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total income of the Federal Council parties ranged between CHF 2.7 million and CHF 7.9 million<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At CHF\u00a024.6\u00a0million, the parties\u2019 total income for the calendar year 2025 is around CHF\u00a01.0\u00a0lower than in the previous year (2024: 25.6). The Social Democratic Party of Switzerland (SP) recorded the highest total income at CHF\u00a07.9\u00a0million (2024: 8.2). FDP.The Liberals (FDP) generated CHF\u00a04.8\u00a0million (2024: 6.6), the Swiss People\u2019s Party (SVP) CHF\u00a03.8\u00a0million (2024: 2.8) and The Centre CHF\u00a02.7\u00a0million (2024: 2.6). The income of the Green Party of Switzerland (the Greens) (CHF\u00a01.8\u00a0million) and the Green Liberal Party of Switzerland (GLP) (CHF\u00a01.2\u00a0million) also exceeded the one-million mark. Further revenue is attributable to the Federal Democratic Union of Switzerland (EDU), the Evangelical People\u2019s Party of Switzerland (EVP) and the Mouvement Citoyens Genevois (MCG). The Lega dei Ticinesi had not disclosed its funding by the time of publication.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Differences in the amount of member and mandate contributions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amount of income from member and mandate contributions depends on the number of members and mandates, as well as on internal party regulations. As in the previous year, there are differences between the parties in this respect. The amounts in question are in line with last year\u2019s figures: The SP collected the highest member contributions (CHF <\/em>2,195,590), followed by the EVP (CHF <\/em>505,137) and the Greens (CHF <\/em>419,784). In terms of mandate contributions, the SP (CHF <\/em>484,267) recorded the highest income, ahead of the SVP (CHF <\/em>439,300) and the Greens (CHF <\/em>363,186) (see chart on 2025 party funding figures).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list of political actors audited has been published<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SFAO has also published the list of political actors subjected to a material audit. It carried out random audits of four parties with a total income of CHF <\/em>15.5 <\/em>million. This corresponds to 63% of the total amount of annual income declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Party funding: scope of the duty of disclosure and informative value of the figures<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aside from receipts from donations, receipts from events, the sale of goods and services and mandate and member contributions must also be disclosed \u2013 but not parliamentary group contributions. National parties that are represented in the Federal Assembly are required to disclose their receipts. Only their national sections, not their sections at cantonal and communal level, are subject to the duty of disclosure. The picture varies greatly depending on how the party’s work is organised. If, for example, member contributions are paid to cantonal sections, this does not appear in the register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following applies to disclosure: in the case of donations made to the party by a party-affiliated organisation, the originator must have intended to support the party represented in the Federal Assembly with the donation, regardless of to whom the donation was originally made. This intention must have been apparent to the party with a reasonable amount of clarification. If this is not cumulatively the case, a party does not have to disclose the original source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Party funding for a calendar year does not provide an overall picture of a party’s political funding for the current year or its assets but rather reflects a party’s receipts in a given calendar year. Since reporting began in 2023, the data show that parties are funded in different ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
