The Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) contributes to the reduction of risks associated with mines, cluster munition and other explosive remnants of war around the world. The foundation receives a basic contribution from Switzerland of nearly CHF 9.6 million each year, representing around 48% of its total budget. In accordance with its programme, the SFAO audited the Centre’s governance, the use of its funds and its oversight by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
The GICHD is going through a phase of major reorganisation following a period of growth and an internal crisis. A new strategy has been put in place but challenges remain, namely as regards governance, financial transparency and operations management. The Council of Foundation must be overhauled, in order to better respond to current needs.
