The system for the cross-border exchange of social security information, EESSI for short, connects over 10,000 social security institutions across Europe and supports the international exchange of data between organisations. The platform is part of the EU’s digital governance strategy and is available to the 27 member states, the EFTA states \u2013 including Switzerland \u2013 and the UK. It was launched in 2017. The aim is to make the exchange of data faster and more cost-effective. In technical terms, the platform consists of a central component used throughout Europe and a decentralised infrastructure that is connected and managed at the national level.
