Audit Efficiency of the award procedure for subsidies to museums and collections - Federal Office of Culture

The Federal Office of Culture (FOC) is responsible for the development and implementation of the federal cultural policy. Among other things, it grants financial aid to museums, collections and third-party networks for the preservation of cultural heritage. In 2021, the FOC pays a total of CHF 5.7 million in operating subsidies to twelve museums and CHF 6.4 million to seven networks.

The Swiss Federal Audit Office (SFAO) audited the Federal Office of Culture on the implementation of main recommendations from 2011. The Federal Art Collection was already audited in 2015.

Audit Use of funds - Swiss National Museum

The Swiss National Museum (SNM) has a mandate under the Museums and Collections Act (MusCA) to preserve and exhibit Swiss cultural heritage. It does this within the framework of its activities of collecting and organising exhibitions. The SNM is made up of the National Museum Zurich, the Château de Prangins, the Forum of Swiss History in Schwyz and the Collection Centre in Affoltern am Albis. Every year, the SNM receives a federal contribution of around CHF 30 million, plus around CHF 20 million for accommodation. The SNM has been a federal institution under public law since 2010. It is supervised by the General Secretariat of the Federal Department of Home Affairs.
